Meet Our Staff

  • Peggy Poore

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LEAD TRAINER

Peggy joined Freedom Dogs after attending a dog training seminar hosted by the organization.  A breeder of Labradors for many years, and daughter to a WWII Air Force Captain, she saw the program as a perfect fit to combine her love of dogs and her support for the US Military and Wounded Warriors. Moved deeply by the transformation she saw in the participants because of the relationship between the dog, the Marine, and the trainers, she committed to donating puppies, serving as a trainer, and giving presentations to raise awareness and provide education regarding Freedom Dogs’ unique program. Her desire is to broaden the program's reach to include other branches of the Military and aid those in the VA.

  • Katie Boatman

    DIRECTOR OF PHILANTHROPY

Katie Boatman was raised in Oklahoma by a family deeply rooted in the belief that meaningful change comes through service and social impact. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, she served as a Naval Aircrewman—an experience that instilled in her a strong sense of discipline, camaraderie, and resilience.

After transitioning out of the military, Katie made San Diego her home and found a new calling in nonprofit work, with a focus on the well-being of underserved communities. Since 2019, she has worked with organizations committed to connection, healing, and community impact.

During her service, Katie’s mother surprised her with a beagle puppy named Bubs. Since then, Bubs has been a constant companion and source of strength. More than just a pet, he represents loyalty, unconditional love, and support—qualities that continue to shape Katie’s personal and professional path. Inspired by their bond, she joined Freedom Dogs, firmly believing in the transformative power of service animals.

As part of the Freedom Dogs team, Katie leads fundraising efforts, cultivates meaningful partnerships, and coordinates mission-driven events that generate both awareness and critical resources. She is passionate about uniting people around shared purpose and ensuring the long-term sustainability of programs that change lives—especially for those who’ve given so much in-service to this great nation.

For Katie, the mission is not only urgent—it’s deeply personal. She is proud to advocate for veterans living with the invisible wounds of service and is committed to walking alongside them, one paw at a time.
